Craig Nicholls: "Get Free" is about doing what you want. It's a combination of strength and pain, fear and excitement. "Getting free" can mean anything, like sleeping in until three in the afternoon every day if that's what you want - that's getting free. For me, though, getting free is in the music. (Interview, August 2002)
Patrick Matthews: This one sounded really good as a demo. We were talking about this being a single when we didn't even have a deal. People say it's a bit like The Stooges, but we never really used to listen to them. (NME, May 2002)
Craig Nicholls: I can never tell what will work. With "Get Free", to me that song never stood out. The record label or whoever said "this should be the first single". (Music Network, May 2011)
