As for bassist Matthews, he still appreciates the comparative peace and quiet of playing in Youth Group, as opposed to the constant chaos of his time in The Vines. Matthews quit his former band after their infamous show at Sydney's Annandale Hotel, when Vines frontman Craig Nicholls kicked out at a photographer.

"I don't think people realise how hard it was to be in The Vines," Matthews says. "Journalists don't like you, so interviews would be these battle grounds. Every question is like, 'What do you think of all the hype surrounding you?' It's just nice not to have all these confrontations now. With Youth Group, there's a little more warmth."
