Hey there fans of The Vines,
Just like you, I had a moment when I first heard the music of The Vines. I just couldn’t believe one band had written that collection of songs. The raw garage liberation of ‘Get Free’ , the humanity of ‘Homesick’, the ferocity of ‘Highly Evolved’. The debut record screamed across the bands mixture of psyche, rock, country, ska and punk.
From the outset, The Vines looked and acted the way I wanted from my rock and roll heroes. Wild in their performance, socially suspicious, both awkward and cool, cavalier in challenging norms, derelict in their passion for trashing the stage. At the front of all that was Craig Nicholls. The only man who had the melodies in his head to match the best vocal chords in a decade.
Back then in 2001 I was an A+R guy and got to sign The Vines to their first record deal. From that spot I watched as the world went looking for authenticity again in music and found a cluster of brilliant rock bands which included The Vines. A renaissance in rock music was born. The ride was incredible but always volatile for The Vines, which is was what I would expect for the band.
Nowadays I manage The Vines along with a team in my office and Craig’s family. Just like his fans, we think Craig has never stopped writing great music. Today we get to announce The Vines are releasing a new double album ‘Wicked Nature’ worldwide on September 2nd. The record is the heaviest the band have released. In my opinion, its the bands best record since their debut. For the first time Craig has stepped into the role of producer. He co-produced disc 1 with Paul Mckercher, and disc 2 he produced himself.
In a period of many changes he has enlisted a new rhythm section for The Vines, Tim John on bass and Lachy West on drums and Craig hopes everyone can welcome them into the fold. Tim and Lachy have been rehearsing and recording with The Vines for the past two years. And for the first time, The Vines are releasing their music as a totally independent artist. No major label involved anymore. No more battling what is expected of a band.
Touring going forward will be minimal because travel does not work for Craig, but he still loves to perform and so the occasional show will still happen. Interviews will be rare, but Craig and the team around the band will speak as much as possible through both old and new social media. The bands focus will be on writing and recording and we will endeavour to release new music to you guys as fast as we can from here on. The Vines are working with PledgeMusic to create a series of exclusive offers that fans can pre-order. All funds raised from these pre-orders will in go into recording and financing a new team of radio, publicity and online agents we have engaged around the world to promote The Vines music.
Anyone who pre-orders with Pledge here will receive a three track sampler of new material taken from the forthcoming ‘Wicked Nature” immediately. Thanks for reading, listening and jumping in where you can. Hope you love the new music as much as we do. If you want to champion the band please share the music and the news as wide as you can!
See you in the front row one day,
Very best, Todd
